*Children aged 8 and older are permitted to be in the library without a caregiver. However, library staff is not responsible for them and they must abide by the library’s Patron Code of Conduct.

Children’s Programming

  • Bodie's Lighthouse Lab

    Kids and their families have fun building, creating and exploring in our children’s STEAM Lab. From our popular magnet ball wall to our glow in the dark wall, constructions toys to art supplies, there’s something for everyone and every age. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Athens Storywalk

    Visit the Riverfront Park for a rotating Storywalk. Read an entire book as you stroll through Riverfront Park. Look for new books each month during Spring, Summer and Fall.

  • Innovation Studio

    Join Ms. Kathy on Wednesdays for Innovation Studio where kids have fun learning, creating and building! Themes range from kitchen science to electronics, covering robotics, hydraulics, magnetism, marble runs, and more. Open to children of all ages though young children should have an adult helper.

  • 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

    Learn more about the program here

    Our library will provide:

    • a lanyard for your child and special badges to help then celebrate each 100 book milestone!

    • Log sheets to help keep track of what books you’re reading with your child.

    • Easy grab-n-go book sets organized by topics your child loves (dinosaurs, transportation, pirates, etc!)

    • Prizes to celebrate the 1,000 book milestone!

  • Nature Backpacks

    Children can borrow backpack full of supplies for exploring specific topics: birding, botany, bugs, hiking, and the night sky. Ask one of our clerks. Check out all the fun activities to borrow in our Library of Things.

  • Baby & Toddler Play Group

    Visit us on Thursdays at 10:30am to meet up with other caregivers and young children to play, learn, and socialize.
